A Few of My Favourite Things…

Colour: Orange. After getting 4 orange pieces of clothing for Christmas I am now obsessed! Living in Dunedin, NZ I definitely want to be reminded of summer as much as possible!

Animal: Elephants and Golden Retrievers like my puppy Greta

Food: I am a self-confessed peanut butter addict! I can pretty much eat it at every meal, from a delicious brekkie on porridge to dinner as a peanut satay dressing! I am also partial to a bit of dark chocolate…

Ingredients I couldn’t live without: lemons – every morning the first thing I do is squeeze 1/2 a lemon into a mug of warm water to help digestion for the day, see here. Also I love love love cinnamon (I obviously haven’t done the cinnamon challenge) because it is so delicious with everything and it helps to stabilise your blood sugar levels. For savoury food, I love having a cupboard full of herbs and spices that literally make the meal in my opinion. My favourite is by far smoked paprika because it has an awesome colour and has a delicious smokey flavour.

Hobbies: baking, cooking, making a huge mess and then cleaning everything else but the kitchen, tramping, pretending to be travelling (or just dreaming about it), taking photos, off-road running and my new found love: surfing!

Favourite places in the world:

Akaroa

Takamatua & Akaroa, NZ – somewhere that’s very near and dear to my heart as growing up we spent every Christmas there kayaking, water-skiing, walking around town, eating numerous ice creams, but best of all was Dad teaching us how to pick up crabs without getting pinched so that we could try to add extra ‘protein’ to my brother’s sandwich without him knowing!

Coromandel

The Coromandel, NZ – so many Kiwis go overseas for their holiday but they miss out on exploring what’s right in their own backyard. The Coromandel is only a few hours south of Auckland but it becomes another world with stretches of white sand beaches. If you are there around November, you might be lucky enough to see the Pohutakawa trees (NZ’s iconic postcard ‘Christmas tree’) flowering right next to the beaches.

Vanuatu – I did a whole post on it here.

Favourite adventurous places:

Castle Hill

Castle Hill, NZ. Over time the slightly acidic rain has worn the limestone rocks away in some places, forming unusual shapes. Because of natural handholds formed in the rock, the area is a rock climber’s paradise for bouldering.

Arthur's Pass

Arthur’s Pass, NZ – I have never been more stoked with myself than when I tramped solo up to the top of Temple Basin and then up the Bealey Valley where there were some amazing waterfalls and a glacier.

Cashmere Rd

And last but not least… my beautiful home full of happy chooks and delicious fresh veges from the garden, my dad’s pride and joy. He plants, I pick (most of the time the raspberries and cherry tomatoes don’t even make it to the kitchen)!

Blog: I couldn’t choose a few as I love them all! Green Kitchen StoriesJulia and Libby, Deliciously Ella, Nadia Lim, I Quit Sugar, Jessica SepelKira Westwick and Livia’s Kitchen
